Manchester International Festival (MIF) - Get Creative

Manchester International Festival (MIF) – Get Creative

In April 2020, at the beginning of the first COVID-19 lockdown Ri Ri’s Dance Academy were commissioned by Manchester International Festival, also known as MIF, for a “Get Creative” initiative. This brilliant opportunity was to create and deliver an activity that safely engages artists communities and wider society during the crisis, resulting in a public sharing.

Facebook LIVE!

Our very own Artistic Director and Bollywood Guinness World Record Holder, Ria Meera Munshi, executed and delivered a Bollywood Get Creative project reaching audiences in their thousands, all around the world, through just one Facebook live Bollywood dance class! Although a reputable and award-winning Bollywood Manchester dance company it was exciting to reach new audiences locally, nationally and internationally!

The Bollywood song which Ria choreographed and taught in this class is the absolutely fabulous and energetic song “Nachan Nu Jee Karda” taken from the Bollywood film Angrezi Medium.

YouTube Dance Class

Following on from this highly successful Facebook live Bollywood Dance Class, Ria then taught exactly the same routine for YouTube, allowing all her students who participated in the class to have a refresher video. Also, a fresh routine for new students too!

You can watch the Nachan Nu Jee Karda Bollywood dance tutorial by Ria by clicking here.

Isolation Students

Some of our Bollywood dance students were kind enough to send over a home-recorded video of them dancing to the routine taught by Ria which is so much fun to watch! You can watch our students dancing by clicking here.

Isolation Students Video Reviews

A lovely little video was created of some of our isolation students giving a testimonial on their Bollywood experience. This can be viewed by clicking here

Review from Manchester International Festival

“In April 2020 we commissioned Ri Ri’s Dance Academy to deliver a Bollywood dance class as part of a new series of online workshops we were trailing. The aim of these events were to encourage people to get involved and try something new and we couldn’t have asked for a better one to kick us off than this. The event was a huge success, it was engaging, fun and informative. Ria not only taught people some brilliant Bollywood dance moves but also explained some of the history behind them. Delivering something like this can be challenging online but Ria managed to juggle teaching the dance moves with engaging the people watching and commenting in the chat. It was great to see such a mix of people enjoying the session from lifelong Bollywood fans to people trying it for the first time. I would recommend Ria to anybody wanting to try something different!” – Ciaron Wilkinson, Cultural Connector
